1. Policy Statement
At EasyLearning121, we operate a No Parent in Class policy across all of our sessions, including 1-to-1 tuition, small group tutoring sessions (maximum 6 students), assessments and IXL mentorship sessions. This means that once a child has been signed in by their parent or guardian, parents and guardians are asked to leave the session space and wait in the designated waiting area or return at the agreed collection time.
Our commitment: we understand that dropping off your child — especially for the first time — can feel daunting. This policy is not designed to exclude you. It is in place because it creates the very best learning environment for every child in our care. Our tutors are fully trained, DBS checked, and experienced in working with children of all ages and abilities, including neurodiverse learners. Your child is in safe, capable hands.
2. Why We Have This Policy
Children settle faster and more confidently without parents present. Research in child development consistently shows that children adapt more quickly to new environments when parents step back. When a parent remains in the room, a child’s attention naturally stays anchored to them, making it harder to engage with their tutor, the learning platform, and other students. Once a parent leaves, most children relax into the session within minutes.
It encourages independence and resilience. Our tuition is designed to be challenging — because that is where real learning happens. When a parent is watching, children are more likely to seek reassurance before attempting a question and less likely to take the learning risks that lead to breakthroughs.
It creates a focused learning environment. Our sessions are structured, tutor-led and capped at six students precisely so that each child receives individual attention. Keeping the session space exclusively for students and staff allows tutors to give their full attention to the children.
It supports safeguarding best practice. EasyLearning121 takes safeguarding extremely seriously. All staff hold Enhanced DBS checks, are trained in safeguarding, and operate within clear child protection guidelines. Limiting access to the session space to vetted, trained staff is a fundamental safeguarding measure — it ensures we always know exactly who is in the room with our students.
It helps every child feel equal. In a room where some children have a parent present and others do not, those without can feel less supported, while those with a parent may feel singled out. Our policy ensures every child arrives on the same footing.
It respects the professional expertise of our tutors. Our tutors are trained professionals. During session time, the tutor is the trusted adult in the room.
3. How Drop-Off and Collection Works
Arrival: bring your child to the Learning Centre entrance at or just before the session start time. Your child’s tutor will welcome them.
Sign-in: your child is signed in on our register. Please ensure we always hold your current contact number.
Handover: once signed in, parents and guardians are asked to say goodbye at the door and leave the session area.
During the session: parents may wait in the designated waiting area, go to a nearby location, or return at collection time.
Collection: return at the published end time. Your child will only be released to an authorised adult. Please ensure anyone collecting on your behalf is named in advance and can show ID.
Sign-out: your child must be signed out before leaving the premises.
First session nerves: if your child is attending for the first time and feels anxious, please tell their tutor at the door. We are experienced at welcoming nervous children — in our experience, the vast majority are happily engaged within five minutes of a parent leaving.
4. Special Circumstances — When a Parent May Be Permitted to Stay
Flexibility is sometimes necessary. The following are exceptions and must be agreed in advance.
Children with additional needs or disabilities: where a child has a diagnosis, additional learning need, or disability requiring parental support, we will work collaboratively with the family. Arrangements may include a parent or support worker remaining quietly in the room, a gradual transition plan across several sessions, or adjustments to minimise disruption to other students. Please disclose relevant needs at enrolment so we can plan appropriately.
First session for very young or highly anxious children: a parent may remain quietly at the edge of the room for the first session only, by prior agreement with the tutor, provided they remain seated, do not participate, and a clear transition plan is agreed for future sessions.
Medical or emergency requirements: if a child has a medical condition requiring a parent or carer nearby, they may remain on the premises in the designated waiting area, entering the session space only if required for medical reasons. Medical information must be shared with us beforehand.
Free assessments for very young or non-verbal children: a parent may observe quietly for part of the assessment to determine whether the environment is suitable. This is a one-time arrangement only.
How to request an exception: contact us before your child’s first session by emailing info@easylearning121.co.uk with details. We will discuss the situation with you and the tutor, and any arrangement will be confirmed in writing.
5. What This Policy Is Not
This policy does not mean parents are not welcome, that we cannot be flexible, or that anxious children will not be supported. We value our parent community; we are always available before and after sessions to talk; every child is supervised by trained, DBS-checked tutors; and you will receive regular feedback and progress reports so you can see exactly how your child is doing.
6. Tips for Parents at Drop-Off
Keep your goodbye warm, brief and confident. Trust the process — our tutors are experienced. Talk positively about the session beforehand. Avoid lingering by the door or window. Give it time — settling into a new routine can take a few sessions. And speak to us if you have any concerns.
